Today, energy markets are not functioning as intended by the current legislation. It is therefore important that legislators demonstrate their commitment to deliver the promise of liberalisation: a fully integrated and competitive European market for electricity and gas. The proposals put forward by the European Commission are an important step in the right direction. However, to ensure the effectiveness of the third package, the European Parliament and the Council need to take swift action and critically review the measures against the aims of liberalization, which is the goal of the third energy package.
The three federations co-sponsoring this event represent different industrial energy consumer sectors.
