Speaker: Livio Gallo, Executive VP Infrastructures and Networks of ENEL HOLDING and CEO of Enel Distribuzione

The development of smart grid technologies will represents a fundamental step to improve energy efficiency and to reach the goals set by the European Union to tackle climate change.

In fact, the EU's commitments to reduce CO2 emissions by 20% and produce 20% of total energy from renewable energy sources by 2020 would prove challenging for the electricity grids, which were not built for this purpose.

Smart Metering technology delivers significant benefits to consumers, more sustainable energy management as well as increased security of energy supply.

Our speaker explained the view of Enel on how smart grids are an essential part of the climate change policy outlining which are the problems to be solved in the near future at European level in order to achieve the implementation of this ambitious and modern infrastructure.
