IEA discusses broadening ties with Brazil

IEA Deputy Executive Director Richard Jones met with Brazilian Energy Vice Minister Márcio Zimmermann, in Brasilia, to discuss existing and potential future areas of collaboration between the IEA and the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), including renewable energy, energy technology roadmaps (in particular sustainable biofuels and smart grids), and reinforcing data exchanges on Brazil’s energy sector in general. Amb. Jones also met with Minister do Lago, Head of the Energy Department at the Ministry of External Relations and with the World Bank Country Director, Makhtar Diop. On Friday, 15 January, Amb. Jones gave a presentation on the World Energy Outlook 2009 to a large audience comprising government officials, academia and the private sector, among others. The presentation was hosted by the Electricity Research Center of Eletrobrás (CEPEL). In Rio de Janeiro, he also delivered a presentation to Petrobras Business Committee.
