Co-processing of alternative fuels in the cement industry : sustainable energy with a future

06/10/2009 - Dinner debate, in Brussels . CEMBUREAU
Topics: Energy consuming technologies,

Speaker: Dr Jean-Marie Chandelle, Chief Executive CEMBUREAU

Cement is an essential product, providing society with what it needs in terms of safe, comfortable housing and reliable modern infrastructure. Co-processing in the cement industry is the optimum way of recovering energy and material from waste. It offers a safe and sound solution for society, the environment and the cement industry, by substituting non renewable resources with societal waste under strictly controlled conditions.
Dr Chandelle told us how significant co-processing can be, as it reduces, interalia, CO2 emissions and fossil fuel consumption.
The focus of this debate was the key environmental benefits linked to the co-processing of alternative fuels and raw materials in the cement industry.
