District Energy Climate Summit

3Nov
2009

Speakers: Antonio Bonomo, President of Euroheat & Power; Robert Thornton President of the US based International District Energy Association; and Wildrid Petrie, Executive Vice President of Cofely for Northern Europe.

As the world looks ahead to the goal of a new global climate agreement, our minds are focused on what needs to be achieved. District energy systems are essential to reducing CO2 emissions and increasing energy efficiency in our cities. The environmental, economic and social benefits of harnessing surplus heat and using local renewable energy sources make district heating and cooling a sensible choice for communities.

Our dinner-debate provided the opportunity to discuss future “high-efficiency, low-carbon” urban energy systems in a global context. It took place on the 3rd of November 2009 at 19:00h at the Scandic Hotel Copenhagen. The debate, to which national politicians were also invited, was a truly international one. The debate was chaired by Britta Thomsen –MEP Denmark.

While only the dinner-debate was hosted by the EEF, participants were invited to attend the whole summit which were organised by the district energy organisations on both sides of the Atlantic in cooperation with the International Energy Agency.
