Electricity Sector’s Reform in Russia

Mr Chubais briefly described Russia’s power sector and electricity reform. The reform is aimed at sustainability of generating capacity and of transmitting facilities in view of market sharing ability and implies initiatives in the area of foreign direct investment (FDI). xxxxxxxxxx
 
Mr Chubais also explained the project of interconnection of two major European power systems – the Western UCTE (Union for the Co-ordination of the Transmission of Electrivity) and the Russian UPS/IPS (Unified Power System / Independent Power System) – for synchronous operations of the two systems.
