Energy technologies in the service of citizen, society and environment – The Kyoto Engagement

30Sep
1998

Further to the Kyoto climate change protocol on greenhouse gas reduction, the European Commission’s Directorate General for Energy is engaged in defining how advanced and new technologies could contribute to meet the reduction targets. Due to the fact that coal will continue to be a major fuel for electricity generation world-wide, this conference aimed at promoting clean coal technology (CCT).

Senior representatives from the European Parliament, the European Commission, including Commissioner Christos Papoutsis and Director-General Pablo Benavides, as well as from industry have therefore exchanged views on the technological and political conditions necessary to achieve these goals. Moreover, the conference has also launched the world’s most advanced coal fired power plant project in which 40 leading European companies are actively involved.
