ETS is the cornerstone of the EU’s policy to combat climate change and reduce industrial greenhouse gas emissions. It is also a key tool to initiate investments in low carbon technologies and generation capacities in the energy sector. To accomplish this, the EU needs a functioning and strong system, which would attract such investments.

However, due to ongoing market failure of the ETS system, new construction and refurbishment of the generation capacity are not initiated.

In 2012 the European Commission presented new proposals for the ETS system, including short-term(backloading) and long-term measures. The Member states along with the Members of the European Parliament have been discussing these proposals in the last months and it is therefore crucial to initiate more discussion on the proposals of the European Commission.

CEZ Group, as the leading power company from Central and Eastern Europe, would like to share its concerns and discuss with you the ongoing negotiations and proposals.
