The European Energy Forum (EEF) organised a briefing session for MEP Assistants on the integration of renewable energy sources in the electricity system. The second session of the briefing focused on the market aspects of the RES integration.

Programme:

– Presentation on the energy market functioning
Fixed costs and variable costs, wholesale and retail markets, day ahead, intraday, etc

– How the integration of larger shares of renewables is influencing the market

– Presentation of different options available to ensure this integration
Capacity mechanisms and improved energy only market

The presentations were followed by a Q&A session and a representative of the European Commission took part in the briefing to provide additional feedback on the issue.
