Seminar on Energy Perspectives and Solutions to the Problems of Chernobyl
Organised in Brussels with a delegation from Ukraine lead by the vice-Prime Minister Mr Yevtuhov.
The seminar brought together Energy Commissioner Papoutsis, Director General for Energy de Miguel, Director General Cioffi as well as key parliamentarians, politicians and industrialists from the Ukraine and the European Union.
The objective was to improve our understanding of critical issues and reinforce the role of the EU in helping the Ukraine overcome the challenges it faces in the energy sector: On 30 November 1995, the G7 Countries concluded an agreement with Ukrainian officials on the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding concerning a Comprehensive Programme to support the decision of President Kouchma to close the Chernobyl NPP by the year 2000.
