Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company
Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB (Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Co) is owned by the Swedish nuclear power reactor owners with Vattenfall AB as the main owner. SKB is tasked with managing and disposing of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste from the Swedish nuclear power plants. Due to separate agreements SKB also handles the disposal of radioactive waste from research facilities, universities and hospitals in Sweden. Existing facilities operated by SKB are for example the final repository for short lived waste (SFR) in Forsmark, the central interim storage for spent fuel (Clab) and the Äspö Hard Rock Laboratory in Oskarshamn. Licensing procedures are ongoing for a planned future final repository for spent fuel and for expansion of SFR in Forsmark.
