Dinner debate in Brussels

Speaker: Cameron O’Reilly, CEO of Landis+Gyr

The necessity to increase energy efficiency in the European Union is absolute. Both the EU’s 20-20-20 goals and the need for massive investment in generation and grid infrastructure demand that energy resources be used more efficiently.

However, no attempt at increasing energy efficiency will be successful without involving consumers. But how can end-user energy efficiency gains be maximized?

This debate commenced with a review of the empirical evidence for increased energy efficiency from customer feedback compiled by Landis+Gyr.  Then, discussion focused on which combination of measures, from Smart Metering and In-Home Displays to special tariffs and direct load control, will bring the greatest and most sustainable energy efficiency gains.
