Dinner debate in Strasbourg

Speaker: Hege Marie Norheim, Senior Vice President, Corporate Sustainability Unit, Statoil

The dinner-debate will be emphasizing a competitive and sustainable business model for 2030 and beyond from the perspective of an upstream oil and gas company.

The European Commission is set to suggest a 2030 climate and energy framework for the EU by the end of this year. Statoil welcomes this work which builds a framework aiming at balancing the need for increased European competitiveness, ensuring energy security and reducing emissions of greenhouse gases. According to them, a consistent and predictable policy framework that ensures a well-functioning European energy market to provide for economic growth is needed. A framework based on a single CO2 target with market based and technology neutral policies will be discussed during the debate.

During her speech, Ms. Hege Marie Norheim, Senior Vice President and Head of Statoil’s Corporate Sustainability Unit, would also like to share some analytical insights on the role of oil and gas in the long-term sustainable energy future. Furthermore, she will elaborate on how Statoil aims to maintain and develop a competitive and resilient portfolio towards and beyond 2030 by focusing on technology development, carbon-efficient operations, and by continuing to be among the world’s leading suppliers of natural gas.

We look forward to welcoming our members.
