Dinner debate in Strasbourg

Speaker: Jean-Marc Leroy, GSE President

Natural gas – the most environmentally friendly conventional fuel – will play a crucial role in the shift towards a low-carbon economy. As part of the natural gas chain, gas storage will continue to help meet the three main objectives of the European energy policy – sustainability, competitiveness and security of supply.

To enhance security of supply, promote market development and deliver greater flexibility, substantial increase of storage capacity will be needed. In order to meet the investment challenge and to address the complexity involved in storage investment and operations, a stable and predictable regulatory framework as well as a market-oriented approach to gas storage will be of utmost importance.

The focus of the Dinner Debate was to exchange views on the key role that natural gas and gas storage will play in the context of the evolving market and policy landscape.
