Natural gas is the fastest growing primary fuel in OECD Europe. Today, about one quarter of Europe’s primary energy consumption is based on natural gas.

Providing its customers with high quality and secure products and services remain a key priority for the natural gas industry. About one year after the enlargement, this implies considerable efforts of industry to adapt within the Single Market and within the new global gas situation.

A competitive natural gas industry, which is a solid and reliable partner for its stakeholders and customers but also for authorities and production countries, is vital for the security of supply in Europe.

The Dinner-Debate reviewed and discussed the following themes:
• The economics, key facts and figures of gas (including consumption and demand trends);
• The external dimension and relations with non-EU producers;
• The internal dimension: Have we achieved a level playing field?;
• The conditions for a globally competitive European natural gas industry.
