Speaker: Mr Mohamed Barkindo Secretary General of OPEC

Current levels of crude oil prices, together with climate change concerns, are driving the global economy towards an unknown future through interesting times.

Our guest speaker Mr Mohamed Barkindo, Secretary General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries , presented his assessment of the world oil markets. He informed the audience on OPEC capacity and readiness to meet both east and west growing demand in the coming years. He also described his vision of the relationship between OPEC and Non OPEC countries.

The dinner-debate was introduced by Mr Bruno Weymuller, Total Executive Vice President and President of Strategy and Risk Assessment.

As usual our event gathered Members of the European Parliament together with representatives from other European Institutions and energy industries to debate the issues raised. Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe also joined us.

Mr Andris Pielbags, European Commissioner for Energy participated in the debate and explained what Europe expects from a permanent dialogue with OPEC.
