25th anniversary of COGEN Europe

COGEN Europe, the association for the promotion of cogeneration, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The annual conference of the association will be an occasion to celebrate this 25 years being part of the energy landscape in Europe. "The Power of Heat" will take place in Brussels on 5 and 6 June. As the European Union is embarking on an ambitious transition towards a low-carbon energy system, COGEN Europe will be bringing together industry representatives, policymakers and stakeholders to exchange views, ideas and plans for a secure, affordable and climate-friendly energy future.

The conference will in particular focus on how cogeneration can play an important role in delivering energy savings, reducing CO2 emissions, creating jobs, boosting the competitiveness of European industry and facilitating the uptake of more intermittent renewables. These are all key objectives of the EU Energy Union and are at the heart of the current negotiations on the Clean Energy Package. Cogeneration generates today 15% of the EU’s heat and 10.5% of the EU's electricity. There is potential to increase these numbers and help Europe to achieve its climate and energy goals.

Preliminary Programme:

  • Session 1: Energy future - Hot debate and powerful ideas
  • Session 2: EU Policy - Unlocking the business case for the energy transition
  • Session 3: Cogeneration in Europe - Trends and market outlook
  • Session 4: Changing business models for cogeneration?
  • Session 5: Local energy revolution - Powered by the people
