EURELECTRIC Annual Energy Policy Conference, with the confirmed participation of Joaquín Almunia (European Commissioner, DG COMP) and Johannes Teyssen (CEO of E.ON and President of EURELECTRIC) will take place on 2 December at Renaissance Hotel in Brussels.
2014 will be a year of significant change in Brussels. As the current European Parliament and Commission move towards the end of their term, we take stock of their achievements and look ahead to the most urgent challenges facing the new European Parliament and the new Commission.
- An internal energy market was promised for 2014: will it be completed on time?
- State aid rules are in the middle of a revamp: will they put the market back on track and stop the move towards reregulation and fragmentation?
- EU citizens consistently indicate that they appreciate regions much more than the EU itself: which untapped potential - and limits - do regions offer in terms of energy?
- DG ENER is set to release a guidance package on public intervention in autumn as well as a proposal for its 2030 framework by year end - what are their implications?
Representatives of the power sector, investors, and NGOs will use the opportunity to analyse the documents and issues currently on the table and debate their merits.
Antonio Mexia, CEO of EDP and Vice President of EURELECTRIC, will conclude the day with a keynote speech on 'the cost efficiency of a European and market-based approach in energy policy'.
