Brian Davis, Vice President of Base Chemicals for Shell

Cefic represents the chemical industry in Europe, producing a wide range of products from plastics to chlorine and from enhanced materials to housing insulation. The chemical industry is a highly innovative industry and has grown and diversified over the decades. Today the European chemical industry produces 20% per cent of the world’s chemicals, employs 1.2 million workers and contributes €539 billion to the EU economy contributing to EU’s trade balance with nearly 50€ billion net per year.

Industry’s products and services play a crucial role in addressing the challenges the world faces today, and in helping provide solutions to those that lie ahead.

To stay competitive and contribute to the economic recovery of Europe, a predictable and supporting legal framework is needed. Arguably, the biggest challenge is energy and the transition towards a low carbon future. To analyse how this will impact our future as an industry and our future in Europe, Cefic has commissioned an energy roadmap which they would like to present to you at this dinner.

The speakers will be presenting the challenges and opportunities Europe and the chemical industry are facing and we look forward to a fruitful discussion.
