Speaker: Dr. Hans-Bernd Menzel, CEO of European Energy Exchange AG, Germany

The EEX is the energy exchange in continental Europe which boasts the biggest number of trading participants and the highest turnover. Currently more than 175 trading participants from 19 countries trade power, gas, EU emission allowances and coal on its Spot and Derivatives Market.

In September the division of spot trading in power was spun off into an independent company. With this spin-off EEX wants to attract new partners throughout the EU and sets a further milestone for the development of a common European market for energy.

In the lunchtime discussion, Dr. Hans-Bernd Menzel, CEO of EEX, presented the latest developments and plans of the exchange in the light of integration of and competition in the European power markets.
