The European Union has shown strong leadership in the fight against climate change, setting ambitious emissions reduction targets in line with the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement. On the path towards sustainable economy, the EU should take advantage of the opportunities that may arise in terms of competitiveness, economic growth environmental protection and security of supply.
A forward-looking EU climate strategy should help establish consistent energy policies and provide long-term signals to boost investments in low-emission technologies. IBERDROLA, leader in the development of renewables, has examined viable pathways to meet the EU’s energy and climate objectives from a business perspective, using different scenarios from the Spanish economy as a reference. This analysis opened the debate on the evolution of low-emission technologies’ costs, the role of electricity as well as the barriers in meeting climate goals in different sectors, among other issues.
