Renewables energy solutions are in the centre of the discussions and one of the pillars of the long-term vision toward the decarbonisation of the EU energy system.

We have the honour to welcome Mr. Adnan Z. Amin – Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) who will present the key findings of a  “A New World: The Geopolitics of the Energy Transformation”, the report of the Global Commission on the Geopolitics of Energy Transformation established by IRENA. The report – the first of its kind- outlines the impacts of this transformation on power relations, trade flows, root causes of geopolitical instability and conflicts. It argues  that energy statecraft as we know it will change and that the energy transformation will have  far-reaching implications for our economies and societies as a whole.

The European Commission perspective will be presented by Director-General Dominique Ristori.

The expertise and knowledge of Terna, Italian TSO, will deepen the topic by explaining the role of transmission system operator as key enabler for the energy transition focusing on the European and Italian perspectives.

The following discussion will bring food for thoughts and provide an opportunity to understand the specific issues of energy transition in the international scenario while at the same time considering the EU aspects of the challenge.
