Speaker: Claude Mandil, President of Institut Français du Pétrole.

The dramatic events of September 11th have highlighted the importance of geopolitics on energy supply and more precisely on the energy mix selected by countries or by group of countries such as Europe.

On the short and medium term, such events and the actions undertaken by several countries to counteract terrorism could have a noticeable impact on oil supply and on prices. On the long term the choice of alternative fuel source have to take into consideration these impacts and the possible return of crisis of this kind.

Claude Mandil provided the views of IFP on these matters and on the related R&D challenges.
