New legislation is being debated in the European Institutions for the energy internal market including tighter rules for gas competition in a rapidly opening market. The gas sector has been adapting to the recent new rules brought by the Gas Directive, and much has been changing over the past two years in the structures and practices of the industry with the introduction of gas-to-gas competition.

For secure continued gas markets development the industry requires business autonomy in a stable legal and fiscal framework, adequate remuneration of investment made in regulated infrastructure, and supportive EU policies in external relations focusing on energy.
