Nabucco and NETS Securing Gas Supply for Europe – Competition, Consolidation, Cooperation

Dinner debate in Brussels

Speaker: Mr. György Mosonyi, CEO of MOL Group

One of the top priorities of the European Union’s energy policy is to increase Europe’s security of energy supply.
A key issue in the current debate is whether security of supply can best be ensured by the EU having large, vertically integrated corporations negotiating with gas suppliers outside the EU or whether ownership unbundling, allowing for equal access to a distribution network and competition in supplying the end customer, is the best model for investment in infrastructure and diversification of supply sources.
MOL believes in the success of the latter and its speaker will be discussing energy unbundling within the context of both the Nabucco pipeline project and the recently announced NETS initiative (New Europe Transmission System), with the view of establishing a new regional, unbundled transmission company, contributing to the increase of Europe’s gas supply security.
