Speaker: Dr. Gerd Eisenbeiß, Member of the Board, Forschungszentrum Jülich

The development of renewable energy is a central aim of the European Union’s energy policy. Wind energy, solar thermal power, hydro, geothermal energy, bioenergy and photovoltaics will help reducing carbon dioxide emissions and improving security of energy supply by decreasing dependence on imported energy sources.

Dr. Eisenbeiß described the technical developments achieved for the different renewable energy sources and presented their perspective with regard to other energy sources. He focused on the current state of technologies and their future. Europe has a lot of expertise in this field but research activities are needed to guarantee its further improvement.
