Biomethane: Europe’s renewable and scalable green molecule Aligning policy, production and industrial demand
The European Energy Forum is pleased to invite you to this Energy debate co-hosted by its Associate Members EBA, GRDF and Cefic.
Biomethane is expected to play an increasingly important role alongside green electricity in supporting decarbonisation and industrial competitiveness, in line with the European Commission’s AccelerateEU communication, which underlines the need to scale up domestic clean energy sources.
This discussion will address the role of biomethane alongside green electricity and consider the potential implications of deployment timelines for future energy costs and opportunities. It will also provide an overview of biomethane deployment in Europe and its role as a renewable and scalable molecule, that can support decarbonisation objectives while strengthening system flexibility, resilience and local energy security. It will explore the deployment of biomethane across Europe, from production potential and infrastructure readiness to the role of renewable gases in an integrated energy system. The view from the industry will complement the discussion with applications where biomethane is used as an energy source as well as a feedstock.
In addition, the programme will present a joint declaration by EU industrial associations indicating demand for biomethane and explore the Biogas Tripartite Agreement as a possible framework to support market uptake, investment, and the regulatory framework.
