Back to basics: Informative Briefing on network planningof the energy system
On 16th October we went back to basics on network planning of the energy system with an informative briefing chaired by Tsvetelina Penkova MEP, EEF President, at the European Parliament in Brussels.
A full room of Accredited Parliamentary Assistants, policy advisors and industry stakeholders had the opportunity to gain a behind-the-scenes understanding of Europe’s electricity network planning, particularly timely ahead of the upcoming publication of the European Grids Package.
A panel of experts from ENTSO-E came back on the history of ENTSO-E’s legal mandate, explained key aspects of the grids and detailed the foundation of its Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP), the comprehensive plan shaping the future of the European electricity system.
The discussion explored pan-EU infrastructure planning, illustrating how national TSO development plans (NDPs) and the TYNDP feed each other to ensure consistency and contribute to EU energy targets. Flexibility of the system as well as the European Resource Adequacy Assessment (ERAA) were also adressed.
The interactive setting fostered many insightful questions and a rich exchange of views among participants.
A special thank-you to all our speakers for sharing their valuable expertise, and to the APAs for their numerous questions, which made for a truly engaging and in-depth discussion.
