Electrification as the key pillar of the post-2030 framework
We are pleased to have a dinner debate,co-hosted by EEF Associate MembersEDF, Fortum and EHPA, on the future of electrification and the role of low‑carbon technologies in Europe’s energy transition.
As the European Union prepares for key revisions of the post‑2030 framework, this moment provides a crucial opportunity to reflect on what the new Governance of the Energy Union could look like.
This exchange of views will address the need for a framework capable of supporting Europe’s industrial resilience, climate ambition, and long-term strategic autonomy, highlighting the role of electrification in achieving these goals.
Speakers will illustrate the significant challenges ahead, including low electrification rates, the absence of a compelling policy framework, regulatory uncertainty, and EU-level and national financing through various instruments.
Our discussion will therefore aim to address two essential dimensions:
- How to develop a balanced, resilient, and decarbonized electricity system, where all low‑carbon energy sources contribute efficiently and sustainably, enabling Europe to meet its climate and competitiveness goals without creating new economic imbalances.
- How to overcome the systemic challenges impeding the electrification of the economy, ensuring that households, industry, and mobility sectors can fully benefit from clean and affordable electricity.
We look forward to welcoming you to this debate and hearing your thoughts!
