European strategic autonomy & economic competitiveness: enrichment for energy demand & medical applications

The visit will provide an overview of Urenco’s activities, focusing on the uranium enrichment programme for energy demand as well as the use of centrifuge technology to produce a variety of isotopes for medical, industrial and research applications at the Almelo site.

In light of the REPowerEU Roadmap, participants will gain a better understanding of how the Western nuclear fuel supply chain is ramping up to meet a growing demand, while strengthening Europe’s security of supply and resilience to potential disruptions across the global value chain.

During the visit, participants will tour the enrichment plant SP5, the Recycling Centre where equipment and components used in the uranium enrichment process are refurbished and cleaned to be reused in operations. Participants will also see first-hand the capacity expansion projects underway at the Almelo site. Finally, a tour of the Isotopes Facility will showcase how the sector contributes to healthcare, industry, and research.
