Ferrous and non-ferrous industries are key players in the European economy and in its path towards a more sustainable future.
As the European Commission prepares the implementation of the Steel and Metals Action Plan and the development of the Industrial Decarbonisation Accelerator Act – this dinner debate explored how to decarbonise energy-intensive industries while enhancing their resilience and global competitiveness.
Key discussions addressed the following matters:
- How to accelerate decarbonisation of steel and non-ferrous metals production in Europe and strengthen their competitiveness?
- What role will be played by electrification / hydrogen or other alternative fuels?
- How to ensure EU’s security of supply of steel and metals in the present uncertain geopolitical context?
- How to create a robust framework for critical raw materials and guarantee Europe’s long-term supply?
We were pleased to welcome representatives from the steel, copper and other non-ferrous industries, who presented their challenges as well as their insights on EU policies, on the access to affordable clean energy, and on the actions needed to secure a sustainable and competitive future for Europe’s steel and metal industries.
