The review of the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) will provide an opportunity to reflect on the future role of Europe’s carbon market in climate and industrial policy, and on how it can continue to provide a predictable framework in the years ahead.
The European Energy Forum is pleased to invite you to a dinner co-hosted by Eurelectric, UFE (Union Française de l’Électricité) and BDEW (Bundesverband der Energie und Wasserwirtschaft) to shed some light on this debate and discuss with you as the EU ETS Directive review proposal is now being debated in the European Parliament.
Over the past two decades, the EU ETS has become an important instrument for reducing emissions and driving investment in clean technologies. As the review gets underway, it offers an opportunity to reflect on the lessons learned since 2005 and discuss how the ETS can continue to support industrial transformation, innovation, energy security and competitiveness in an increasingly uncertain global context and to also consider how the ETS can remain fit for purpose for the years ahead.
During the dinner, experts from Europe’s electricity industry will share perspectives on the implications of the ETS for the power sector and discuss:
- How can the revision build a predictable, meaningful and sustainable carbon market that supports long-term investment;
- Can we use the ETS to strengthen Europe’s industrial competitiveness and accelerate industrial decarbonisation through revenue recycling and targeted support;
- How to ensure a just transition through the Modernisation Fund and other solidarity mechanisms.
