Dinner debate in Brussels

Speaker: Mr Karel Kovanda, Manager CEZ Representative Office in Brussels

The energy world waited on the 2030 package with a mixture of nervousness and guarded expectation, with particular focus on the  question of who the next industry casualty in the name of European climate change policy would be, and whether it could be avoided?

CEZ explained their vision; that no further victims are necessary, if we stick to a concept of the three “ones”: one target, one tool, one approach. One goal ensures the global temperature increase by 2100 remains below 2°C. One tool leveraging private capital through a revised EU ETS. One approach on polluter pays principle puts all emitters into one line while allowing for special treatment of energy intensive industries. A market driven move to a low-carbon economy via a single emission reduction target enables deployment of low carbon energy solutions, including renewables, in a natural and cost efficient way.
