On May 18th, the European Commission proposed the REPowerEU Plan to end dependence on fossil fuels from Russia and tackle the climate change crisis.

The plan includes proposals to increase the renewables target to 45%, measures to tackle remaining permitting issues, a solar strategy and targets for solar installations on buildings.

This will directly influence the core activities of distribution system operators’ (DSOs) as today most of renewable energy sources in the EU are connected to the distribution grid. It is expected that as renewables expand, the role of local generation and demand sources will also grow as they become active participants in the power market.

The EEF Associate Members PGE and Enedis will thus look at REPowerEU from a DSO perspective, explaining what they see as necessary to fully implement it while ensuring a secure, efficient, stable and reliable operation of the overall electricity system. The European Commission’s DG ENER (invited) and MEPs will also provide their insights to the discussion.

The EEF events are for EEF Members, MEPs, representatives of the European Commission and of the Permanent Representations and Missions to the EU. For more information, please contact us.
