Introduction: Paul Bulteel, EURELECTRIC, gave an outline of the scope and general conclusions of the project.

Speaker:  Prof. Pantelis Capros, National Technical University of Athens presented the results of his modelling work on the project.

EURELECTRIC has undertaken an ambitious project to demonstrate how electricity can respond to the key energy policy drivers of economic competitiveness, climate change, and security of supply.

Addressing supply and demand scenarios to 2030 and 2050, the study shows how a balance of electricity supply options and demand side substitution could deliver significant CO2 savings and supply security whilst maintaining economic competitiveness.

The study considers new and innovative technologies in generation and on the demand side, in the latter case pointing to a key future role of electricity in transport and heating and cooling sectors.
