Dinner debate in Strasbourg

Speaker: Mr. Tapio Saarenpää, CEO of Fennovoima

Many large scale energy projects are faced with slow progress, so how can we buck the trend and get these projects off the ground at a faster pace?

The Fennovoima nuclear power plant project in Finland has done just that and recently took a big step forward as the site for the new reactor was announced. It will be the first greenfield nuclear project in Europe for decades and has thus achieved a high level of public interest at the local, national and international levels.
The project has a key role in Finland’s domestic energy production, in maintaining competitive electricity prices and in contributing to C02-free targets.

Since its inception in 2007, the Fennovoima project has progressed at an admirable rate and, with nuclear power currently at the centre of the international debate, this dinner discussion was a good occasion for them to show us how it’s done.

“We have a wide support for the project, both nationally and at the local level. I am equally encouraged by the high degree of EU-level interest in the progress of the Fennovoima nuclear new build Project.”

Tapio Saarenpää, CEO of Fennovoima
